Lady Warriors stay busy during homecoming week

A full schedule was on tap this past week for Peabody-Burns High School volleyball team. It traveled Sept. 20 to Berean and was defeated by Goessel 25-12, 25-18, and Berean 25-16, 25-21.
On Saturday the Lady Warriors competed in the Olpe tournament. They started off by defeating Bishop Seabury 25-17, 25-11 in match one, but fell to Olpe 25-23, 25-19, Marais Des Cygnes Valley 25-18, 25-10, and Marmaton Valley, 25-22, 20-25, 22-25.
At Berean, the Lady Warriors had trouble with the net pressure from Goessel. In the Berean match, PBHS only served three points during game one. In game two, the Lady Warriors took the lead on the Bluebirds, but Goessel came back to score 12 points in one service rotation. Kara Gridley had several kills, but the Lady Warriors were defeated by a five-point run by the Bluebirds.
At Olpe, match one with Bishop Seabury was all Lady Warriors. Kali Alstrom had 14 assists to set up kills for Becky Morris, Jessi Hilliard, and Gridley. Traci Windsor had eight service points in game two of the match.
In the Olpe match, the Lady Warriors gave up three points after the match was tied at 19. They cut the lead to one at 24-23, but lost on the next serve.
In game two, the Lady Warriors fell behind 20-13, and battled back to 22-19, but couldn't close the gap and lost the match. Gridley had 10 digs and Hilliard had six kills. Jessica Gillet and Hilliard teamed up for seven blocks.
In the third match of the day against MDCV, the Lady Warriors led game one 15-10. MDCV came back to take the lead 21-15, eventually winning. In game two both squads played even at 20, but MDCV scored the final five points to take the match.
In the fourth and final match, Girdley served three consecutive points to put the Lady Warriors up 23-19 in game one. Marmaton Valley came close at 24-22 but PBHS finished the job, winning by three. PBHS fell behind by nine in the second game, but fought back to within four at 24-20. Marmaton Valley scored the final point for the victory.
Game three was filled with even play from both squads. PBHS took a late 22-20 lead, but gave up the final five points of the game and lost the match. Alstrom had 15 assists.
"I hope the team knows I'm proud of them," head coach Dan Schroeder said. "They are competing at every match, playing better, and making improvements.
