Lady Warriors split last week's games

One win and one loss were the results of two home games this past week for the Lady Warriors.

The Peabody-Burns High School squad defeated Sedgwick Tuesday, 49-26, but lost Friday to Little River, 66-36.

The Lady Warriors get a week off, then will participate in the Berean Tournament.

The team took the lead early against Sedgwick, up 11-6 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams struggled early on offense. Marie Unruh led the first period scoring with five. Gretchen Berns had four and Dalli Hammond added a two.

Second quarter offense improved slightly. Hammond put in two treys in the period. Jana Windsor and Unruh had a basket each and Tiana McGee chipped in two from the free-throw line.

Defensive pressure by the PBHS squad held the Lady Cardinals to five points, putting the PBHS squad up 23-11 at the half.

Hammond continued the outside assault for the Lady Warriors adding three more treys in the third quarter. The PBHS defense made it difficult for the Lady Cardinals and the lead was 39-15 at the end of the third period.

The PBHS squad continued to dominate in the fourth quarter. Lady Warrior reserves played some in the period to bring the contest to a PBHS win, 49-26. Hammond led the team with 20 points, six threes, and a two.

Dalli Hammond 20, Gretchen Berns 8, Marie Unruh 8, Tiana McGee 6, Jessi Hilliard 5, and Jana Windsor 2.

Little River

The PBHS Lady Warriors played a close first quarter against Little River. The squad led at the end of the first quarter, 11-8. Gretchen Berns put in five with two each from Jana Windsor, Shannon Welsh, and Marie Unruh.

The Redskins came back to challenge the Lady Warriors in the second quarter. Foul trouble and turnovers plagued the PBHS squad and the team went down 31-17 at the half.

The second half was a tough one for the Lady Warriors. Fouls, turnovers, and very little offense combined to give the team a loss against Little River, 66-36.
