Lady Warriors split in quad

The Peabody-Burns Lady Warriors traveled to Canton-Galva for a quadrangular Oct. 1 and handled the Canton-Galva team easily. But, they ran into trouble with the Burrton squad. The Lady Warriors travel next to Sedgwick.
The PBHS team jumped out to an early 7-3 lead, but the Eagles battled back to tie the game at nine. The Peabody-Burns squad won the game 15-10 on an ace by Marie Unruh.
Game two started much the same, but the Eagles wouldn't quit. Good defensive play, especially from Sandra McLeod, held off the Eagles and the Lady Warriors won the game 15-12 with a strong block at the net by McLeod to score the last point. The Lady Warriors won the match 15-10, 15-12.
The Burrton match was a tough one for the Lady Warriors. Down 4-11, the PBHS squad fought hard to get back in the game. Good team play kept them in, but the Chargers overpowered the Lady Warriors 12-15.
The Chargers jumped out to an 8-point lead in game two and the PBHS squad just couldn't find their game. The Lady Warriors lost the match 12-15, 5-15.
"Up to this point in the season we have made big strides as a team," stated coach Darrin Schroeder. "We have finished third and second in tournament play. This week will be huge. With two victories we could finish in the top half of the league standing and qualify for league tournament."
Gretchen Berns had four kills and six blocks against Canton-Galva. Sandra McLeod had four kills, one block, and seven digs, Eve Benyusova had four kills and one block, and Marie Unruh had three kills.
In the Burrton match, Berns had three kills and two blocks, Benyusova had one kill and two blocks, Marie Unruh had two kills and one block, and Dalli Hammond and Sandra McLeod each had two kills.
