Lady Warriors skin Bearcats in sub-state opener
The PBHS Lady Warriors ended their season Friday in the second round of sub-state play. The squad traveled to Olpe to take on the number one team in the tournament, the undefeated Olpe Lady Eagles.
The P-B team was defeated by Olpe, 77-51. The Lady Warriors finish the year with an overall record of 10 wins, 12 losses.
The first quarter set the tone for the match-up. The Eagles took control midway through the first quarter and never looked back.
The Lady Warriors were cold from the field, with Gretchen Berns scoring the only points in the period, a total of nine. At the end of the first period, the PBHS squad was down by 10, 19 to 9.
More Lady Warriors got into the scoring action in the second, but the swarming defense of the Lady Eagles kept them off balance. The gap was 22 at the half, 42-20, with the Lady Warriors scoring 11 in the quarter.
Olpe picked up where they left off after the half, dominating the PBHS squad. The Lady Warriors were down 59-32 at the end of the third period.
The P-B team had a late scoring surge in the fourth, but couldn't overcome the assault of the Lady Eagles. They were defeated 77-51 and ended their 2003 season.
