Lady Warriors place third in tournament

PBHS Lady Warriors traveled to Moundridge Saturday for league tournament play. The Lady Warriors advanced to the quarter finals, but were defeated by the Moundridge Wildcats and came out third in the tournament.

The PBHS squad travels to Herington for substate play.

The first match in pool play for the Lady Warriors was with Little River. The Warriors avenged an earlier season loss to the Redskins, defeating them in the 9 a.m. match-up. Ashley Miller earned 13 assists in the contest. Gretchen Berns had six blocks and nine kills.

The second match-up in pool play pitted the Lady Warriors against Inman. The PBHS squad played a tough first game, but couldn't overcome the tough back row attack by Inman. The PBHS squad lost in two, 19-25 and 11-25.

The final round of pool play was a must-win against Sedgwick. The Lady Warriors came out ready with good all-around team play. Ashley Miller earned several aces in the first game. The second game was closer, but two big kills by Shannon Welsh and Sandra McLeod ended the match.

The Lady Warriors advanced out of pool play by defeating Sedgwick, 25-13 and 25-18.

The PBHS squad advanced to quarter-final play to take on the Moundridge Wildcats. In the first game, the Lady Warriors hung tough with the Cats. Gretchen Berns came up big on the front row, but the game got away from the Warriors, 20-25.

The second game of the match was intense. Starting out slow, the Warriors battled back to tie the Wildcats at 23-23. McLeod served well late in the contest to push the PBHS squad. The Warriors were tough but lost to the Wildcats, 23-25.

The Lady Warriors placed third in the tournament with a 16-16 overall record for the season.
