Lady Warriors picked off by Eagles

Peabody-Burns Lady Warriors opened sub-state play at home Thursday, taking on the Burlingame Lady Bearcats. With a record of 9-11 on the year, the PBHS squad was seeded fourth in the tournament. The Lady Warriors had no trouble with the Lady Bearcats, taming them 60-24.
The P-B team opened fast and ready to put points on the board. Outscoring the Lady Bearcats by 10, the quarter ended in favor of the Peabody-Burns squad, 15 to 5. Marie Unruh and Gretchen Berns each put in six for the Lady Warriors.
Offensively, point production slowed in the second, but the PBHS squad controlled the tempo of the game. Senior Casey Berger led the quarter with five and the gap was 12 at the half, 25 to 13.
PBHS defense held the Lady Bearcats to five points in the third. Aggressive play kept the ball out of the hands of the Burlingame players. The lead was 20, 38-18, at the end of the third period.
The Lady Warriors exploded in the fourth quarter, dumping in 22 points with nine from the charity stripe. The defense held their opposition to six in the quarter and the reserves were able to coast to victory in the final minutes by a score of 60 to 24.
