Lady Warriors lose two this past week

Peabody-Burns High School Lady Warriors suffered two league losses this past week, falling 49-40 to Sedgwick, and 47-30 to Little River.

Little offense from both squads put the Lady Warriors down 6-3 after the first quarter of the Sedgwick game. Jessica Gillet started the PBHS scoring with a free throw, and Elaina Newell added a basket.

The Lady Warrior offense picked up in the second, with the team posting 21 points. Jessi Hilliard paced the team with 13 points. Newell added a three-pointer and Racquel Castillo had three free throws. Traci Windsor had one bucket.

The defense held Sedgwick to 15 points, and PBHS led 24-21 at the break.

Pressure from the Cardinals in the second half overpowered the Lady Warriors. Sedgwick scored 28 points to take the victory.

Newell led the second half with four three-pointers. Hilliard and Gillet recorded two free throws each.

Little River

The Lady Warriors played tough against Little River in the first quarter. A three-pointer from Newell gave PBHS a 6-5 edge, as it held on to the lead throughout the first quarter. Hilliard had seven points, Laura Hoffman added two points, as the Lady Warriors led 12-11.

The offense went cold in the second quarter. Hilliard had six points and Windsor two, but it was all the team could muster. Little River scored 17, including a three-pointer at the buzzer, to lead 28-20.

Little River's defensive pressure overpowered PBHS and held them to 10 points in the second half. Hilliard had seven points, and Newell had three, as the Warriors fell by 17.
