Lady Warriors lose to Sacred Heart

Staff writer

The Peabody-Burns Lady Warriors ended their season on the road Monday night in the first round of sub-state. Traveling to Salina, the PBHS squad took on a formidable Sacred Heart team. The Lady Warriors ended the season with a 3-18 record.

The first quarter of play was a good one for the PBHS squad. Gretchen Berns opened the scoring with two off the glass from underneath. Leading most of the quarter, the Lady Warriors had success penetrating the inside for high percentage shots. Fouls let the Lady Knights inch back in and the Lady Warriors lost the lead as the first quarter ended, 11-12.

A sloppy second quarter made big trouble for the PBHS squad. While the team had success breaking the press, cold shooting plagued the team. Only eight points were scored in the period including two treys from Casey Berger. At half-time, the Lady Warriors trailed the Lady Knights, 19-36.

The third quarter was a tough one with offense from only two Warriors, Andrea Jones and Gretchen Berns.

The Knights took control of the game throughout the rest of the half and defeated the PBHS squad, 65-43.
