Lady Warriors lose contest to Eagles

Peabody-Burns High School Lady Warriors basketball team was defeated Tuesday by the Canton-Galva Eagles, 39-31, during a makeup game at Galva.
Up next is a full week of basketball at Berean Academy Tournament. The Lady Warriors were scheduled to open Tuesday against Berean, the third-seeded team.
The Lady Warriors kept close in the first quarter, but managed only seven points. The edge went to the Eagles, 9-7. Elaina Newell had a trey to pace the first quarter scoring. Tiana McGee had two. Jessi Hilliard and Kate Topham had a free throw each.
Eagle man-to-man pressure gave the PBHS team trouble in the second quarter. Newell and Hilliard each had three. Canton-Galva managed 14 in the period to make the halftime time gap for the Lady Warriors, 23-13.
PBHS slowed the Eagle offense to eight in the third. PBHS scored nine and cut the Canton lead to nine, 31-22. Newell had a third trey in the contest. Hilliard had two and McGee added a basket and two free throws.
Fouls became a problems for PBHS in the fourth, although the defense held the Eagles to eight in the period. Jessica Gillet scored four for the offense. Newell had a basket and Hilliard added three free throws.
