Lady Warriors knock off Eagles

Peabody-Burns Lady Warriors' basketball team competed in two home games this past week. PBHS claimed a victory Jan. 31 against Canton-Galva, 48-43, and fell Friday to Inman, 62-39. The Lady Warriors travel to Hutch Trinity and Ell-Saline this week.

PBHS played an even first quarter with Canton-Galva. At the buzzer the scored was tied at 10. Jessi Hilliard had four points, Racquel Castillo had three points, Elaina Newell two, and Jessica Gillet one points.

The PBHS offense took an early lead in the second period, but the Eagles came back to take the lead with four minutes left, 17-15. Hilliard shot two baskets to bring her total in the period to six, and give the Lady Warriors a two-point halftime edge, 19-17. Newell also had a three-pointer in the period.

PBHS led by six in the third, but the Eagles came back to tie the game at 30. Traci Windsor found the net for six points, and Hilliard had five.

Free throws were big in the fourth with the Lady Warriors nailing nine from the charity stripe. Hilliard paced the team with nine points, Newell had seven, and Becki Morris had two points, as PBHS took the game by five.

Inman

The Lady Warriors had a tough game against Inman, managing just four points in the first quarter. Newell and Hilliard each had two points, as PBHS trailed 14-4 at the end of the period.

The team's offense was better in the second, but the Lady Warriors still trailed 31-13 at the break. Hilliard had five points, and Windsor and Morris each had a basket.

The Lady Warriors offense improved in the second half scoring 26 points, but the halftime deficit was too much. Hilliard had 12 second-half points, Newell eight, Castillo three, Laura Hoffman two, and Morris one. Inman scored 29 and took the game, 62-39.
