Lady Warriors finish season with win over Burrton

The Lady Warriors made one last appearance on their home court for the regular season, taking on the Lady Chargers of Burrton. The PBHS squad took the win, 38-35.

The first quarter was all Lady Warriors. The PBHS squad took an early eight point lead and held Burrton to only two in the quarter.

Marie Unruh had five in the quarter and Gretchen Berns dumped in six. They had a good lead, 11-2, at the end of the first.

The Lady Chargers turned up the pressure on the PBHS squad in the second, but the Lady Warriors still managed a 10-point lead, 18-8, at the half.

Point production slowed in the third, but defensively the Lady Warriors held the Chargers and the period ended 26-13.

The Chargers caught fire in the fourth quarter, closing the gap to within two late in the quarter. With three seconds left in the game, the PBHS squad thwarted a three-point attempt by the Chargers and took the win, 38-35. Marie Unruh and Dalli Hammond scored big free throws in the period to help ice the game.

The Lady Warriors finished their season 9-11 overall and 6-7 in league play. They were 8th in the Heart of America League standings. They now prepare for sub-state play. The first game of sub-state for the Lady Warriors is Tuesday with site and opponent to be determined.
