Staff writer

Peabody-Burns High School volleyball team wrapped up the season Saturday at Howard.

The team defeated number three seed Oxford in first round sub-state play, 25-16, 25-22, but lost to number two Sedgwick 21-25, 25-20, 23-25, to finish with a 12-20 record.

Against Oxford, the Lady Warriors took the early lead. At 16-10 PBHS attacked Oxford to take the lead 22-16. They held on for the 25-16 victory.

In game two the score was even through four service rotations. The Lady Warriors then built a 19-15 lead, but Oxford came back to tie it up at 19. PBHS held off Oxford's attack to take the game and the match.

The Lady Warriors built a nine-point lead in game one of the Sedgwick match, but the Cardinals climbed to within one at 11-10.

The teams traded points again, and the match was tied at 21. Net serves hurt the Lady Warriors in the end, as they fell 25-21.

Leading 6-2 in game two, PBHS stretched the margin to 12-4 with strong serving. Leading 23-14 they let the Cardinals back in the game at 23-20.

That was all Sedgwick would get, as PBHS scored the final two points for the victory.

Game three was close as well, with the teams tied at 19. Sedgwick scored the next two points, but PBHS rebounded with three in a row to take a one-point lead.

Tied at 23, the Cardinals scored the final two points to claim the match.

"The Sedgwick loss was a tough one, but the team gave all it had," head coach Daren Schroeder said. "They played great offense and defense and made good decisions. That's all I could ask of them."
