Lady Warriors end tournament in fifth place

The Peabody-Burns Lady Warriors participated Jan. 26-31 in a tournament at Berean Academy. In first round action Jan. 26 the Lady Warriors lost to Sunrise Academy, 61-43. They came back in the second round to defeat the Berean team 70-55.
The final game was postponed a week due to weather. The Lady Warriors played that game Saturday and took the win over Douglass 75-61, placing fifth overall in the eight-team tournament.
Sunrise Academy
In the initial round the Lady Warriors were overpowered early with the quick attack of the Sunrise squad. Shannon Welsh put up the only two points of the first quarter. The PBHS team was down 15-2 at the end of the first.
Scoring picked up in the second quarter for both squads. Rough play put the Lady Warriors at the free throw line throughout the period. Eight points for the Lady Warriors came from the charity stripe. Marie Unruh had six points in the second, Kali Alstrom put four on the board, Jana Windsor had three, and Welsh added one. The PBHS squad was down 20 at the half, 36-16.
The Lady Warriors continued to be dominated by the Sunrise squad in the second half. The PBHS offense did make a run early in the third, led by Windsor with eight points. The Sunrise team answered and the lead was 23 at the end of the third, 53-30.
The Lady Warriors put up 13 in the fourth. Dalli Hammond led the quarter scoring with five. The PBHS squad was defeated in the first round, 61-43.

Berean Academy
In second round play against Berean Academy the Lady Warriors were a little slow early in the game. The PBHS squad led by five at the end of the first period, 17-12. Dalli Hammond paced the Lady Warriors with five.
The Berean Lady Warriors stayed close to the PBHS team in the second. Both squads did well on offense, but the PBHS Lady Warriors led 34-27 at the half.
The third quarter offense shut down the Berean team, holding them to five. The PBHS offense exploded putting up 24 in the period. Jessi Hilliard led the attack with 10 points.
In the fourth period the Berean offense came alive scoring 19, but the PBHS offense answered with 13 and the Peabody-Burns Lady Warriors earned the victory, 70-55.

Douglass
In third round play the Lady Warriors jumped out to a 23-7 lead over Douglass in the first quarter. Six Lady Warriors contributed to the big quarter of scoring.
Douglass came back to score 20 in the second quarter while the PBHS offense generated 12 in the period. The Lady Warriors led 35-27 at the half. Marie Unruh paced the Lady Warriors with six.
The Lady Warrior offense got back on track for the remainder of the game, scoring 40 points in the final two quarters.
The PBHS Lady Warriors defeated Douglass, 75-61, and took fifth overall in the Eli J. Walter tournament.
