Lady Warriors end season in sub-state

The Lady Warriors traveled to Herington Saturday for sub-state volleyball.

The Lady Warriors, with a 16-16 record, were the fourth seed in the tournament. In round one the Lady Warriors took on Chase County.

The Peabody-Burns squad defeated the fifth seed Chase County Bulldogs to advance to second round play against the number one seed Lyndon. The Lady Warriors were defeated by Lyndon to bring the season to a close 17-17 overall.

The Chase County match was an even match with both teams staying close. The first game of the match was mostly Lady Warriors, but the Lady Bulldogs battled back to take the lead and the game.

The Lady Warriors were down by two, 23-25. Gretchen Berns, Marie Unruh, and Sandra McLeod all had kills in the game.

In game two, the Lady Warriors couldn't shake the Lady Bulldogs until late in the game. Berns, Unruh, and Kali Alstrom had kills in the match. Dalli Hammond served well for the Lady Warriors. The Lady Warriors beat the Chase County team 25-17.

In game three, both teams played big. Ashley Miller and Shannon Welsh served aces in the game. Sandra McLeod came up with a big kill to end the third game 15-13 and give the Lady Warriors their first round win.

The Lady Warriors played tough against Lyndon in game one, coming up just short 22-25.

Game two also had the Lady Warriors on the short end and they lost 18-25.

"This was a great team to coach," stated Coach Darren Schroeder. "They improved in many ways. Their hard work and effort was appreciated and they should be proud of their accomplishments."
