Lady Warriors drop another league contest

Staff writer

The Lady Warriors took on the Moundridge Wildcats Friday in a tough league match-up and were defeated 63 to 47. They now prepare for two more league contests, a road game at Central Christian and homecoming against Inman.

Good shooting from the perimeter made for a close first quarter for the PBHS squad. Dalli Hammond led the scoring with two treys. The Lady Warriors did a good job against tough defense from the Lady Cats and were down only three at the end of the first quarter, 17 to 14.

The starting five hung tough in the second quarter with four Lady Warriors putting points on the board. Jana Windsor led the scoring with seven. Gretchen Berns added four, Casey Berger chipped in a trey, and Marie Unruh tossed in two.

The squad was down by five at the half, 35-30. The Lady Warriors played good defense on the tough Wildcat team.

In the third quarter, the team played hard and with one minute left in the period, Marie Unruh made two from the charity stripe to tie the game at 40 all. The Wildcats added one more basket before the buzzer, making the score 42-40 in favor of the Cats.

The fourth quarter was slow in point production for the Lady Warriors, while the Lady Cats turned up the defensive pressure for some transition points and the Lady Warriors were defeated by the Lady Wildcats.

"We gave them three good quarters," stated Coach Kevin Washington. "We proved we can play with anyone. We just need to learn to focus for a full 32 minutes."
