Lady Warriors compete in Olpe tournament

A long day of tournament play for the Lady Warriors Saturday at Olpe gave the team three wins and two losses. They beat Marais Des Cygnes Valley 27-25, 25-17, Northfield 25-10, 25-10 and Marmaton Valley 27-25, 25-17. They were defeated by Central Christian 25-21, 23-25, 25-27 and also lost to Olpe 21-25, 12-25. PBHS finished fourth overall in the tournament.
Match one for the day was against Marais Des Cygnes Valley. In game one, PBHS was down by four early, but kills by Tabitha O'Neal, Becky Morris and Jessi Hilliard brought the team back to tie the game at 8. The lead went back to the Trojans and the Lady Warriors were down 14-19. Bayleigh Clark had a kill and Morris served for five points, including two aces, to put the PBHS team ahead by one, 20-19. Both teams battled and the game went to the PBHS squad 27-25, on a kill by Morris.
In game two the Lady Warriors dug a deep hole from the opening serve. They were down 0-9 before getting on the scoreboard. Good net play by Morris and Hilliard provided a needed spark to bring the team back to a 13-13 tie with the Trojans. The PBHS squad claimed the lead at 14 and went on to win 25-17. Clark served the last four points and Jessica Gillet ended the match with a kill.
In the second match of the tournament, the lady Warriors stayed even with the Central Christian Cougars with all even at 16. Aces by Morris and Clark helped the team to a 25-21 win.
Game two was another hard fought game with the teams all even at 23. Central Christian forced a game three by winning the last two points of the game. Gillet and O'Neal had aces and Morris and O'Neal had kills.
PBHS jumped out to a 6-2 lead in game three. The Lady Warriors remained in the lead until point 16 with kills by Danielle Savage, Clark and Morris. The Cougars took the lead but the teams were all even again at 23 on an ace by Hilliard. Morris had two kills late in the match, but the game and match went to the Cougars, 25-27.
Match three for the day was with a much less experienced team from Northfield. Hilliard served eight points early in the game. O'Neal served seven late in the game. Aces were recorded by Hilliard and O'Neal. Kills were recorded by Morris, Hilliard and Julie Wedel. Game two was closer with Lady Warriors allowing Northfield to make the game even at six. The Lady Warriors then took control and won the game 25-10 and the match. The game ended with a Morris kill and a Hilliard ace.
The first game of match four against Marmaton Valley was close, but the PBHS squad trailed for most of the competition. Two aces by O'Neal put the Lady Warriors even at 22. They took the Marmaton team to 27 to claim the victory, 27-25.
PBHS had good serves and good net play in game two. Kills by O'Neal, Morris and Hilliard and aces by Morris, Hilliard, O'Neal and Savage took the Lady Warriors to the game win 25-17 and the match.
In the last match of the day, the Lady Warriors were defeated by the host team, Olpe, 21-25, 12-25.
Morris led the Lady Warriors scoring attack with 38 kills and 12 aces.
