Lady Warriors chalk up two losses, one win

The Lady Warriors lost the first two match-ups in the Great Eight Tournament this past week but came back to win round three and take seventh place. The PBHS Lady Warriors lost a close first round contest to Caldwell, 46-44. They were defeated by Oxford Friday, 55-26. They defeated Norwich Saturday, 46-32.
The Caldwell/Peabody game was a close one in the first quarter with the Lady Warriors trailing by one, 10-9. Jesse Hilliard had seven points and Julie Wedel had a basket.
The Lady Warriors put up 12 in the second to take the one-point lead at the half, 21-20. Hilliard had six, Elaina Newell put in five, and Tabitha O'Neal added a free throw.
PBHS offense was able to build a six-point lead in the third, scoring 16. PBHS defense held Caldwell to 11. Newell hit two treys and two free throws to pace the third period of scoring. Hilliard hit six and Jessica Gillet had a basket.
In the fourth quarter, Caldwell offense inched back into the game, tying the score at 44 with two seconds left on the clock. The inbound play scored with time running out and the Lady Warriors lost the first game, 46-44.

Oxford
The Lady Warriors took the early lead against Oxford. At the end of the first quarter, the squad led 12-5.
In the second, Oxford added 11 points and the Lady Warriors put in seven. The score at the half favored Oxford, 23-12.
After halftime, Oxford defense pressured the Lady Warriors and the lead was 40-15 at the end of three. While the PBHS squad was able to add 11 in the fourth, Oxford took the big win, 55-26.

Norwich
In the first quarter of round three against Norwich, the Lady Warriors outscored the Eagles 16-6. Hilliard and Gillet had two baskets. Racquel Castillo and Newell each shot a trey. Danielle Savage added a basket.
Both offenses scored 11 in the second quarter to make the Lady Warrior halftime lead 27-17. Hilliard had four, Newell a trey, and Morris and O'Neal had two each.
Lady Warrior offense remained in control of the game in the third period, scoring 14. Hilliard had seven. Newell added a trey and Gillet sunk a free throw. PBHS defense held Norwich to 10 to make the score after three quarters 41-27.
Newell added her fourth trey of the evening and Wedel added a basket to ice the victory for the Lady Warriors.
