Lady Warriors chalk up more league wins

Two more league victories were earned this past week by the Lady Warriors of Peabody-Burns High School.
The PBHS team traveled Tuesday to Berean Academy and defeated the Berean Lady Warriors, 44-25. On Friday, the PBHS squad took a homecoming win over the Inman Teutons, 48-22.
Meeting Berean, the PBHS team went on an early 6-2 run. Gretchen Berns hit the basket for the first PBHS score and led the quarter scoring with six points. At the end of the first quarter, PBHS was up 15-9. Marie Unruh had five while Shannon Welsh and Jana Windsor each added two.
The defense held Berean to only one point in the second quarter. Offensively, Dalli Hammond and Unruh put up five each. Berns added a basket to round out the scoring for the first half. At the buzzer, the PBHS girls led by 17 for a score of 27-10.
In the second half, PBHS put up 17 more to take the victory, 44-25. Berns paced the half with nine. Jessi Hilliard put in four Hammond and Traci Winsor added two each.
In Friday's homecoming contest with Inman, the Lady Warriors went behind 3-0 early in the quarter. Windsor tied the score at three-all with a trey at the six-minute mark. The remainder of the quarter stayed close. Hammond hit a big three at the end of the period to put the Lady Warriors up three, 10-7.
Windsor put in the first basket in the second quarter. The Lady Warriors scored seven of the 15 points in the period from the free throw line. The margin was seven at the half, 25-18. Berns led the quarter with nine. Unruh and Hilliard each added two.
The PBHS squad went on a 7-0 run to start the second half scoring. The difference at the end of three was nine, 36-27.
Inman came alive in the fourth quarter pulling to within four with four minutes left in the game. Down the stretch, the Lady Warriors took control of the contest at the foul line, scoring 10 free throws in the period. The PBHS squad defeated the Inman Teutons, 48-42. Hammond put in four points to lead the fourth quarter. Unruh and Tiana McGee added three each while Windsor chipped in two.
The Lady Warriors played Central Christian Tuesday at home. They will travel Friday to Ell-Saline for a road game.
