JulieAnne Chisholm scored 22 points Tuesday, and eight other Lady Trojans contributed to the scoreboard in a 61-37 sub-state victory against Marion.
It was Hillsboro's 12th victory of the season, as the Lady Trojans advance past the first round of sub-state play. They will face the winner of 19-1 Osage City versus 0-18 Mission Valley Firday at Hesston in the second round.
Early in the first quarter it looked as if the over-matched Warriors would hang around with Hillsboro. But with the game tied at 6, the Lady Trojans scored six of the final eight points in the quarter, and led 12-8 after one. A dominating 16-4 second quarter gave HHS a comfortable 28-12 lead at the half.
Defense proved strong in the first half for Hillsboro as it held Marion to 6-of-26 shooting including 0-9 from behind the three-point arc.
Marion kept the score from getting too out of hand with 25 second-half points, but Hillsboro still outscored the Warriors by eight en route to the 24-point victory.
Amy Neufeld was the only other Lady Trojan in double-figures with 11 points. Audrey Weinbrenner added eight points, and Tina Frick scored six. Chisholm also led the team with nine rebounds.
Hillsboro must win its next two games to advance to state play.
