Lady Trojans blow away competition with 4-0 sweep

In a week where the competition didn't stand a chance, the Hillsboro High School softball team racked up 70 runs in four games and improved to 11-1 on the season.

Smoky Valley provided somewhat of a challenge April 18 in game one against the Trojans.

The Vikings led 3-1 heading into the fourth inning, but HHS tied the game when Jenesa Klose and Laura Lindsay crossed the plate. Two runs for the Vikings in the bottom half of the inning gave them the lead once again.

Steph Abbott then led off the sixth with a double, followed by a Klose walk. An error allowed Laura Skiles to reach base, and the first run of the inning scored.

A passed ball and another error led to the 6-5 victory. Lindsay picked up another victory on the mound.

Game two was only close in the first inning when neither team scored. The Lady Trojans broke it open in the second, plating eight runs on their way to a 14-2 victory.

This time is was Klose picking up the victory on the mound.

Four Lady Trojans scored at least two runs, with Becky Steketee leading the way with four.

Walks contributed to most of the runs, as the Trojans scored all 14 with just two hits, including a two-run double from Skiles.

Friday brought another road doubleheader for the Lady Trojans.

It didn't matter.

HHS destroyed the Wichita Collegiate Spartans, 30-2, and 20-2.

Once again walks and errors led to most of the runs, but the Lady Trojans still banged out 12 hits in the 30-run first game.

Collegiate actually led 1-0 after the first inning, but a 10-run second, and 20-run third wrapped up the dominating victory.

Abbott, Skiles, and Suzy Lindsay all notched two hits, while Jessica Klose led the team with five runs scored. Lindsay picked up her second victory of the week on the mound.

Game two didn't turn as ugly early, with Hillsboro leading just 4-1 after three innings. But after four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth, the Lady Trojans began to pull away.

In the top of the sixth the game turned sour for Collegiate as the Lady Trojans touched home plate 10 times, en route to the 18-run victory.

Jessica Klose notched a triple and scored a run, and Angie Bina knocked a two-run double and scored four runs.

Her sister Jenesa recorded was the winning pitcher.

When all was said and done the Lady Trojans outscored their opponents 70-11. The four victories give HHS a 10-game win-streak since starting the season 1-1.

The squad is off Friday and will resume play Tuesday at Haven.
