Lady Tomahawks drop two as season begins

Peabody-Burns Junior High girls' basketball squad opened its season losing a road game at Whitewater and a home game against Canton-Galva.

The Lady Tomahawks were defeated by the Remington Colts, 33-9, and the Canton-Galva Eagles, 42-21.

In the Remington match-up, Julie Wedel led the scoring with four. Rachael Hamous had two points. Traylee Woodruff, Danielle Savage, and Stephanie Remple each added a free throw.

In the Canton-Galva contest, the first quarter was even with a slight edge to the Eagles at the end of one, 6-4. The Eagles soared in the second taking a 26-6 lead.

In the second half, the Lady Tomahawks scored 15 but couldn't overcome the first quarter deficit.

Hamous led the team with six points, 10 rebounds, and four steals. Paige Barnes had six points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots. Remple put in four points, had four rebounds, and three steals.

Other totals include Savage with two points and three rebounds; Felicia Pohlman, two; Wedel, one point, two rebounds, and three steals; and Alex Holm-McDowell, two steals.

The team meets Inman Thursday at home.

JV action

The Lady Tomahawk junior varsity began the season with two in the win column. They defeated Remington, 32-4, and Canton-Galva, 19-3.

Against Remington, Paige Barnes led the team with eight. Stephanie Remple had seven. Felicia Pohlman had four. Traylee Woodruff, Danielle Savage, Rachael Hamous, Kaitlyn Preheim, Julie Wedel, and Clarissa Terronez all had two each. Alex Holm-McDowell added a free throw.

Preheim led the scoring against Canton-Galva with five. Wedel and Remple had four each. Shelby Elliott, Savage, and Barnes each contributed two.
