Staff writer

The Peabody-Burns cross country team traveled to RAFT golf course in Augusta for the 6A, 2A, and 1A cross country regional competition. The girl's team brought home a regional runner-up honor, placing second behind Hutch Trinity. With a top-three team finish, the Warrior ladies now move on to state competition Saturday at Wamego.

Leading the Lady Warriors once again was Ashley Elliott with a second place finish overall. Elliott ran the two-mile course in 12:52. Alyssa Carter finished sixth at 12:50, Kate Topham was ninth at 12:54, and Jana Windsor at 12:55 came in 12th. Casey Berger rounded out the five member team finishing the run in 18:14.

The Warrior men ran a 3.1-mile course. Nicholas Whitney finished in 20:14, Jesse Riggs came in at 21:18, and Jeremy Berger crossed the line at 22:52.

"Our team ran great," said coach Tony Zappone. "They pushed hard, harder than expected. Every finish was important for the girl's team to earn the right to compete at state. I'm really proud of all their efforts."
