Lady Bluejays spikers complete perfect week
The Tabor volleyball team kept on rolling Friday night in Hillsboro, beating the Kansas Newman Lady Jets for its sixth consecutive win.
The Jets came into the contest one spot in Region VI higher than the eighth-rated Bluejays.
The Bluejays (13-10, 10-1 KCAC) got off to a rough start in the opening game, falling to the Jets, 30-21.
But Bluejay coach Amy Ratzlaff got her team going the next game as Tabor won the remaining three respectively, 30-27, 30-26, and 30-27.
Staci Whitcomb and Lindsey Vogts combined for 24 kills with 12 each with Whitcomb picking up a team-high 14 digs. Jill Hein added 13 digs and Kelsi Suderman contributed 11 kills.
The Bluejays showed no sign of their long road trip the night before to Leavenworth where Tabor polished off St. Mary with 30-27, 30-24, and 30-18 wins.
The Bluejays opened the week with another 3-1 win, fighting off a pesky hosting McPherson Lady Bulldog team Monday.
Up 2-0 behind 30-22, and 30-26 victories, the Bulldogs hung on for a 31-29 win in third game to force a fourth.
Tabor did everything right to upend McPherson, 30-19.
Whitcomb continued her stellar defense, picking up a game-high 18 kills and 21 digs with Vogts chipping in 16 kills. Ashley McKillip had 10 kills and 10 digs.
Traci Neufeld had 17 digs, Hein, 16, and Jo Love followed with 13.
On tap for the Bluejays this week was a Tuesday night home meeting against the Sterling Lady Warriors before closing out the week Thursday night in Hillsboro against the Bethany Lady Swedes.
Thursday's action is scheduled for 7 p.m.
