Labor Day parade now taking entries

Floats, bands, and other entries are needed for the annual Labor Day parade in Florence.

This year's theme is "Hats Off to the Red White and Blue." A veteran's float will lead the parade, which starts at 11 a.m. Plenty of entry slots remain. Cash prizes are awarded to the top floats.

Of particular interest are marching bands. The Labor Day parade provides an opportunity for a live performance early in the year, so officials hope see several area bands participate.

Amusements

Games and rides this year are provided by Celebrations, Wichita.

The company "saved the day" last year when a carnival scheduled well in advance failed to arrive. Celebrations provided several amusements at the last minute. This year, they will have a line-up of games and activities in the southern-most block of Main.

Wristbands, good for all day, will be $8 each, but are $6 if purchased in advance at Florence Market. Individual ride tickets are $1.50 each.

Arts and crafts

Space is limited for the arts and crafts fair located on East Fourth. Vendors from Kansas and other states have been reserving slots to display their wares.

For more information, call Janette Parley at 620-878-4646.

A miniature train exhibit will be added to this year's slate of events. It will be located in the garage section of the Ambulance Building at 515 Main.
