Kite lovers invited to Saturday extravaganza
It is not too late to register for Peabody's first Kite Extravaganza set for 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the east playground at Peabody Elementary School
The extravaganza is a great opportunity for all ages to enjoy a celebration of spring. It may be the one time that some of us embrace a typically menacing attribute of Kansas weather — wind.
The extravaganza includes a variety of kite demonstrations and contests. Whether you bring a kite you already made or a store-bought kite, you are eligible to enter the contests no matter what your age. David Ellis of Topeka, an expert kite maker and flier, will be on hand for demonstrations and advice.
For those who do not own a kite, Les Derstein, who has a kite store in Wichita, will have a variety of kites available for purchase.
To register, pick up a form at Peabody City Office or register online at www.peabodyks.com. For more information, contact Jim Truax at (620) 983-2616 or e-mail jimtruax@southwind.net. Fliers also are available at the city office.
