KDOT approves bids for road contractors

Kansas Department of Transportation approved bids Dec. 15 in Wichita for state highway and construction maintenance projects, including projects in Marion County.

Projects announced were 25.4 miles of overlay on K-15 from the east junction of U.S.-56 north to the Marion-Dickinson county line; and U.S.-56 from the McPherson-Marion county line east to the K-15 junction. U.S. Asphalt Company of Omaha, Neb., was awarded the project with a bid of $3,063,743.

Joe Palic of KDOT said the project will be a maintenance project to be completed this summer.

A second project will be surfacing 8.8 miles on U.S.-77 from the U.S.-50 junction north to the U.S.-56/K-150 junction. Venture Corporation of Great Bend was awarded the project with a bid of $11,514,748 for grading, bridge, and surfacing. Paul J. Fulsom of Cedar Vale was awarded the seeding project with a bid of $51,435.

The project is anticipated to begin in mid — March and be completed by fall of 2006.
