Kansas Junior Livestock Show is this weekend at coliseum
Youth from across the state will exhibit more than 1,400 head of animals Friday through Monday at the 73rd annual Kansas Junior Livestock Show at the Kansas Coliseum. Nineteen exhibitors are from Marion County.
In addition to selection of livestock species champions, a showmanship contest will reward top exhibitors.
When the competition is complete, the top five animals in each market division — steers, hog, and lambs — will sell during the KJLS Auction of Champions at 7 p.m. Sept. 26.
The public is welcome and encouraged to support the event by bidding on livestock in the live auction.
Exhibitors of the winning animals often use the money earned to help fund their college education and buy next year's livestock project.
KJLA also will sponsor a club calf show and sale. More than 60 head of prospect steer and heifers will sell at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
