Journalism students hear Bill Kurtis

Students and sponsors from Peabody-Burns High School were in Manhattan Sept. 26 for the 22nd annual Kansas Scholastic Press Association fall workshop.

A highlight session was one which featured Bill Kurtis, who is the anchor of three A&E network series, including the Emmy award-winning "Investigative Reports." Kurtis was raised in Independence and has been active in revitalizing Sedan.

Yearbook/Photography adviser Dorothy Rucker and Cathy Jantzen accompanied seven students to the conference. Aimee Brown, Jason Carroll, Ricky Hill, Jeremy Hoffman, Sarah Peugh, Frankie Stevenson, and Megan Weber joined more than 600 students from 41 schools in Kansas at the conference which was entitled, "It's in the bag and it's all good."

More than 50 sessions covering various aspects of journalism including photography, yearbook, newspaper, and broadcasting sessions were led by professionals in the field, college professors, college students, and high school journalism teachers.
