John Waner
John H. Waner, 91, died Dec. 25, 2007, at Golden Living center, Marion.
Born Sept. 26, 1916, at the OK Ranch north of Florence, he was the son of Andrew and Frances (Garrison) Waner.
On Nov. 5, 1936, he married Irma Mae Allen at Marion.
He farmed east of Marion for 20 years, then became superintendent for Marion County Lake for nine years. He worked as a campus policeman at the University of Kansas and Wichita State University. He also worked for Alcohol Beverage Control for 17 years, retiring in 1981.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irma; two sons, Eugene and Larry Waner; two brothers, Paul and Robert Waner; and one sister, Ruth Garland.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John I. and Rose Marie Waner of Alba, Texas; two daughters-in-law, Judith Waner of Mansfield, Texas, and Alice Waner of Canton; two brothers, Vernon Waner of Marion and George Waner of Junction City; sister, Dorothy Hoffman of Marion; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and his friend and companion, Leona Manhart of Marion.
The rosary and funeral Mass were Saturday morning at Holy Family Parish, St. Mark Catholic Church, Marion, with Fr. Hien Nguyen as celebrant.
Burial was in Marion Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established with Marion County Park & Lake for trees and improvements.
