Jerry Joe Ellis

Jerry Joe Ellis, 64, of Medicine Lodge, died Oct. 8, 2004, at Pratt Regional Medical Center.

Born March 31, 1940, at San Antonio, Texas, he was the son of Theodore "Ted" and Lillian Leone (Malbie) Ellis.

He was a retired Texas game commissioner. He was a member of First Christian Church in Medicine Lodge, the Kansas Specialty Dog Service in Washington, and an Eagle Scout and scout master.

He moved from Florence to Medicine Lodge in 1990.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Donna Ellis and Helen Baker; sister-in-law, Bobbie Ellis; brother-in-law, Harold Reeder; and his seeing-eye dog, Okie.

Survivors include his niece and caretaker for nine years, Amy Moore of Medicine Lodge; three brothers, Melvin Ellis of Hutchinson, James E. and wife Rachel Ellis of Pensacola, Fla., and John Ellis of Marion; and two sisters, Lois Reeder of San Antonio, Texas, and Sue and husband Francis Hansen of Medicine Lodge.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Larrison Funeral Home in Medicine Lodge and at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Florence Christian Church with the Rev. Tom Walters officiating.

Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the American Diabetes Association.
