Jack Grosse

Jack LaVern Grosse, 68, Grosse Construction owner, passed away Feb. 19, 2008, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

Jack was born Jan. 28, 1940, at Hillsboro to Kenneth L. and Martha (Bernhardt) Grosse.

He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and attended schools in Peabody. Jack graduated from Peabody High School in 1958.

Following high school, he attended Wichita Business College. In October 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After basic training he was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. He was discharged in January 1961.

Upon his return from Panama, he worked in the family dirt construction business with his uncle, Tom Grosse.

On July 21, 1962, he married Sharon K. Shepherd at Newton. To this union two children were born, Kenneth LaVern and Julia Kay (Grosse) Ensminger.

He was preceded in death by his son, his parents, a brother, Michael Grosse, and granddaughter, Bailey Rae Ensminger.

Jack is survived by his wife of the home; daughter Julia Kay Ensminger of Peabody; and two granddaughters, Taylor and McKenzie Ensminger both of Peabody.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Peabody. Burial is at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The family will greet friends and relatives from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Baker Funeral Home, Peabody.

A memorial fund has been established with the Peabody-Burns band program.
