Ira Samuel Wiley

The Rev. Ira Samuel Wiley, 88, died Feb. 10, 2008.

Born Oct. 16, 1919, at Grassy Meadows, W.Va., he was the son of Samuel and Vella Wiley.

The family moved to Peabody and later to Newton where he graduated from Newton High School.

In 1940, he married Edith Rodgers.

He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 27 years until he resigned as chief clerk for the Eastern Division.

He entered the ministry and served as pastor for United Methodist churches at Cedar Point, Bazaar, and elsewhere. He was a member of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Edith; four sons, David of Park City, Sam of Houston, Texas, Jon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Tom of Topeka; daughter, Ruth Solon of Park City; sister, Virginia Wilhelm of Salina; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at United Church of the Brethren, Newton.

Memorial funds have been established at Newton Church of the Brethren, Newton Lions Club, or Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, Newton.
