HPD recover stolen vehicles, question suspect

Stolen vehicles were recovered Feb. 27 in Hillsboro by Hillsboro Police Department. A Goessel youth is being questioned in the matter.

Feb. 26: Marion County Sheriff's Department received assistance with a complaint. A parking complaint was filed in the 100 block of South Birch Street, Hillsboro. Suspicious activity was reported in the 100 block of North Cedar Street. An alarm was checked in the 400 block of East Grand Street.

Monday: An officer located a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of Orchard and Ash streets; the 1991 Dodge Stealth had been wrecked and abandoned; when the owner, Mark King, 315 S. Wilson, Hillsboro, was contacted, he reported it had been stolen; King also reported a suspicious vehicle in an alley behind his house; the vehicle, a 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse, was owned by Scott Rempel of Halstead, and had been reported stolen from a business in Goessel; a Goessel juvenile was questioned by authorities; charges are pending. A report was filed of a salesman selling door-to-door without a permit. A gas skip was reported at Casey's General Store; the vehicle and driver were located and returned to the store and paid. Suspicious activity was reported in the 400 block of South Ash Street. An officer responded to a call for assistance with an unruly crowd at Tabor College gymnasium.

Tuesday: A verbal domestic disturbance was reported in the 300 block of West Third Street. Assistance was provided in fueling an aircraft. A noise complaint was filed in the 200 block of West D Street.

Wednesday: Jerry Schmidt, 401 Floral Drive, reported the theft of a $200 eagle statue from his yard. ALCO Discount Store reported a theft from its store but later it was determined to be a civil matter that involved an error with a credit card. A subject was fingerprinted for employment purposes. A motorist on U.S.-56 received assistance. Parking complaints were filed in the 500 block of East D Street and 400 block of South Lincoln Street. A park curfew at Memorial Park was violated.

Thursday: A K-9 unit performed a vehicle search. A dog complaint was filed in the 100 block of North Madison Street. A civil standby was provided. A motorist received assistance on U.S.-56. A dog complaint was made in the 300 block of West Third Street.

Friday: A salesman was reported selling door-to-door without a permit. Charges are pending against a 27-year-old Hillsboro man regarding an assault on Ryan Funk, 22, Hillsboro, who reported being assaulted while visiting a residence in the 300 block of North Ash Street; Funk was approached by a male subject who was angry about a parking space and punched Funk in the face.

Saturday: An officer responded to an unattended death in the 200 block of South Ash Street; it was determined the individual died of natural causes. Assistance was provided to the sheriff's department with an injury accident on U.S.-56.
