Hospice volunteers training will be offered

Training for hospice volunteers will be offered during two Saturdays in August.

The 14-hour training will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 7 and 14. There is no fee or obligation.

Central Homecare & Hospice has been providing hospice services in Harvey, Marion, and McPherson counties for 25 years.

These volunteers have played a vital role in the care of hospice patients and families. Volunteers assist families with relief for the caregiver, companionship for the patient, letter writing, reading, and providing support during bereavement.

Volunteers can choose the area of service they find most comfortable: patient care, bereavement, administrative assistance, or special events.

All hospice volunteers are required to attend a training program that explores the hospice philosophy and services, as well as studying issues about communication and grief.

For more information or to register for training, contact Donna E. Becker at Central Homecare and Hospice, 316-283-8220 or 1-800-301-9499. Registration deadline is Aug. 5.
