Honey, hats on agenda during women's series
Learning about honey production, tips on accessorizing, and other interesting tidbits of information were on the agenda for women attending "Hyacinths, Hats, and Honey," the latest session during the "How Does Your Garden Grow?" series sponsored by Peabody Main Street.
Women began the session learning about honey production and interesting facts about bees presented by David Mathis of Barkman Honey in Hilsboro.
Sharon Pickens of Peabody explained the Red Hat Society and the fun she and others are having participating in it.
Nancy Klaassen, owner of Nancy's Fashions in Hillsboro, offered tips on accessorizing.
Marilyn Jones, Peabody historian, entertained the group with chilling stories from Peabody's past.
After a tasty luncheon, featuring honey as a main recipe ingredient, those attending enjoyed a presentation by the "California Sisters" of Ramona, Pat Wick and Jessica Gilbert.
All who attended received goody bags and some won door prizes. Nine prizes were awarded to those participating in the hat contest.
The following categories and winners were Marilyn Jones, most humorous; Gwen Gaines, most colorful; Kerry Brown, most sporty.
Pauline Hosler, El Dorado, biggest; Jessica Gilbert, Ramona, most elegant; Shirley Moore, Marion, littlest.
Patricia Nettleton, best ensemble; and Beverly Smith, El Dorado, most creative.
David Mathis also won a prize for best hat in the male category.
