Homecoming is Friday

Peabody-Burns High School students will be taking part in Spirit Week activities every day this week as part of the 2006 winter homecoming.

Candidates for king and queen were selected this past week.

King candidates are Jason Carroll, son of John and Sheila Carroll; Ben Jantzen, son of Leland and Cathy Jantzen; and Cody Weerts, son of Jonathan and Juanita Richstatter and Randy Weerts.

Queen candidates are Megan Cox, daughter of Randy and Laurie Cox; Ashley Elliott, daughter of Roger and Annette Elliott; and Lindsay Wiebe, daughter of Randall and Raeanne Wiebe.

Crowning of the 2006 king and queen will be at approximately 7:10 p.m. Friday, between the girls' and boys' varsity games against Bennington.

Students are dressing up every day this week to show their spirit and vie for prizes. Monday was "as many clothes as possible" day, Tuesday was sports day, Wednesday is "thrift shop prom" day, Thursday is class color day, and Friday will be "crazy blue and white" day.

Candidate games, prizes for dress-up days, the wagon float parade around the gym, and a pep rally will begin at 3:05 p.m. Friday in Brown Gymnasium. The public is invited to attend.

The homecoming dance will be from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Brown Building for current students and PHS and PBHS alumni.

Burn bans stay

Burn bans remain in effect for at least another week.

Marion and Harvey county commissions said dry conditions warranted the continuation of the bans.
