Holtsclaw entertains at Florentines meeting
Vocalist Bennie Holtsclaw provided an entertaining musical program at the May 10 meeting of the Florentines in the Florence senior center.
Twenty-eight answered roll call by recalling memories of their mothers. Nearly all stated "We were poor, but we didn't know it" — as everyone else was poor, too! Each reported having an enjoyable and loving mother, with what she said being the law.
"Happy Birthday" was sung to Loren Cox and the Roger Giesbrechts were honored on their 38th wedding anniversary.
Two little May baskets — the punch-out paper kind, were given to the center by Mildred Bowers of Marion.
Estelle McCarty held a drawing for Mother's Day. Live plants were awarded to Marie Holtsclaw, Elsie Tittle, Noreen Holtsclaw, and Lois Huntley.
Two hand-crocheted afghans were donated for a drawing on Labor Day. Tickets are available at $1 each or six for $5.
Reports given included the following:
— The men have secured another pool table so all can play.
— Commodities will be available at the senior center from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. May 23.
— The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 25 for alumni to visit before the banquet in the evening. Volunteers for the center will be on hand to provide refreshments.
Those attending the meeting were Loren and Mildred Cox, Cecil Rotz, and Bertha Linnens of Newton, Bennie and Marie Holtsclaw of Cedar Point, Ed Grimwood of Burns, Larry and Thelma Blosser, Keith and Noreen Holtsclaw, Harold and Lois Huntley, Ray and Eleanor Davidson, Walt and Betty Ireland, Irwin and Pauline Creamer, Lucile Wyss, Lenora Graham, Virginia Learned, Benard Stromberg, Roger Giesbrecht, Betty Inlow, Elsie Tittle, and Ella Leeds.
