HMS girls win five of six

Hillsboro Middle School girls' basketball team swept Halstead and won two of three games with Hesston this past week.

The Trojans played Hesston Nov. 29 and the eighth grade girls defeated the Swathers 37-15.

Sam Soyez lighted up the Hesston defense for 19 points to help HMS improve to 2-0.

Tasha Hollingshead and Dakota Kaufman scored eight points each.

The seventh grade team fell to 0-2 with a 32-25 loss to the Swathers. HMS led by one at the break, but lost the lead in the fourth quarter.

Becky Faber led the Trojans with nine points, while Tyler Nikkel and Chassidy Carlson added seven points each.

The C-team played its first game of the season and improved to 1-0 with a 32-20 victory against Hesston.

Allie Faul scored 10 points, and eight players scored either two or four points to earn the balanced scoring victory.

The Trojans were at it again Dec. 1, as they swept Halstead on the road.

The eighth grade team too the offense to a new level, winning 50-27.

Kaufman and Hollingshead were both in double-digits with 10 points. Tayrn Mayfield and eight points, Brianna Loewen seven, and Candace Weinbrenner chipped in with four points.

HMS now stands at 3-0.

The seventh grade team avenged their loss to Hesston and picked up its first victory of the season at Halstead.

Carlson scored 11 points to help lead the Trojans to a 25-24 victory. Faul was next with eight points and Faber finished out the scoring with six points.

The C-team complete the sweep to improve to 2-0.

Again it used a balanced scoring attack to knock off the Blue Dragons, 25-11.

Dianna Sanders led all scorers with seven points, and Mayfield added six.

Tara Heinrichs and Elise Heyen scored three points, and Nikkel, Sarah Unruh, and Loewen all scored two each.
