HMS finishes season with league meet

Hillsboro Middle School track team ended its season May 9 at the Mid-Central Activities Association League meet.

The girls' team finished eighth out of 11 teams and the boys were sixth.

"I am very proud of their efforts and they put the finishing touches on a fine season during the league meet," coach Dennis Boldt said.

Nathan Vogel set a school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 12.6 seconds.

"He has battled back from a football injury to compete at a high level this season," Boldt said. "We look forward to having him in our high school program next year."

Boldt said Dakota Kaufman set a school and MCAA League record in the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, 8 and one-quarter inches.

"To put that into perspective," Boldt said. "It would have placed her ninth in the 3A state competition in Wichita last season."

"All of our young athletes simply became better athletes through the season," he said.
