Historical society needs help to finish tale
The most recent issue of the Peabody Historical Society newsletter apparently did not have "the rest of the story" concerning the Tressler and Knowles family ties to early Peabody.
Board member Pauline McPheeters received a request of information on Louis Marcellus Knowles last October and had sent the requested information. The Virginia inquirer said, "Knowles had made quite a name for himself in the educational circles in Montgomery and Marion counties in Virginia. His formal schooling was at Beloit College and was interrupted by the Civil War."
She also was seeking information of a Joseph Drouillard who apparently lived with the Knowles' family. She had located Drouillard in a 1895 census in Marion.
The name Louis Marcellus Knowles surfaced more recently in Peabody when a KU student researching an anonymous diary asked for information on Knowles for her research. The diary is part of the Spencer Library collection at KU.
Marilyn Jones, president of the Peabody Historical Society, would like to ask readers if anyone knows any information or stories about L.M. Knowles, Joseph Drouillard, or the Tressler family.
