Historical society happenings

Gourmet meals at the Morgan House have been a feature for the Peabody Historical Society's fund-raising efforts for a number of years.

Perhaps one of the more interesting events in April was when the society served a club from Newton that really wanted to "create an impact."

Board members were interviewed, the house was shown, linens and china inspected, plans for candles and flowers discussed, and eventually even the ink on the menus was matched to the programs.

The event was a great success and board members felt perhaps they had passed the ultimate test!

Other dinners and luncheons may come and go, but this one truly was memorable!

Discussion have taken place as to a suitable memorial for longtime board member Muriel Wolfersperger. No final decisions have been made.

The long-dreamed-of "Reprint of Peabody's First 100 Years," which really would not be a report, still is in the works.

Ed Slocombe gave board members an idea for a calendar featuring the "men of Peabody," which hopefully would attract thousands of buyers!

This project is not yet at the printer, but board members are searching for volunteers who are willing to "bare it all" for historical research.

Pauline McPheeters and Tom Schmidt have worked hard at establishing a fireworks "stand" for July 1-4. A contract has been received from the wholesaler and McPheeters is working hard at a schedule which is needed to provide around the clock maintenance.

Check out the latest in pyrotechnics at the stand just north of Gilbert Loewen's business.

"Peabody on Saturday Night" has been selected as the theme for this year's downtown walk which is scheduled for Oct. 17 and 18. The scenes and cast still are in the planning stage.
