Hillsboro museum holiday open house is Saturday afternoon
The William F. Schaeffler House Museum will hold a special holiday open house from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
The house will be authentically decorated and will feature an old-fashioned Christmas tree decorated with ornaments and candles from the Edwardian period (1901-1910).
Of special interest will be some of the new collections recently donated to the house by Keith and Susan Ebel, members of the Schaeffler family. These will include oil paintings, dishes, a brass bed, and numerous other items original to the house in the 1920s, but not seen in the house for many years.
The oil paintings were painted by Ida Schrepel, who married William Schaeffler's brother to become Ida Schaeffler's sister-in-law and the second Ida Schaeffler in the family.
The dining room table will be set with the now enhanced set of dishes that was owned by the Schaeffler family.
Staff and volunteers will be on hand to point out new objects in the house, some of which were presents from one family member to another.
The new Friends of the Hillsboro Museums group will sponsor the open house.
The event is free to the public. Donations are appreciated.
