Hillsboro FCCLA goes to Lyons for fall leadership conference
Members of Hillsboro FCCLA attended the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America fall leadership academy Wednesday at Lyons High School. More than 400 students from the central and south central regions of Kansas attended.
The conference theme, in honor of FCCLA's birthday was "60 Years Strong, Where You Belong."
The following Hillsboro chapter members were recognized for completing step one degrees and/or Power of One accomplishments; Stephanie Abbott, Jessica Allen, Whitney Allen, Jayme Claassen, Crystal Conner, Brittany Davis, Joshua Elliot, Sarah Heidel, Evana Holtsclaw, Kayla Letterman, Kassidi Luthi, and April Young. Whitney Allen was recognized as Hillsboro's outstanding FCCLA member. The Hillsboro chapter also was recognized for its community service project, a donation of funds to the Mexico Missions Project.
Keynote speaker Dr. Bill Richter, from Kansas State University, spoke about "Juggling Lessons for Life." The Kansas FCCLA peer ed team conducted a workshop on "Student Body - Eat Right, Stay Fit, and make Healthy Choices." Connie Hoch and Ann Eomsch from K-State Research and Extension, presented a comedy routine as clowns in promoting "Laughter and its Benefits." A group from Joplin, Mo., called "Leaders of the Pack" gave a theatrical performance incorporating important issues facing youth today.
