Highway construction is topic of Florence chamber meeting
Rep. Don Dahl to hold question, answer session Thursday evening
The July 3 meeting of the Florence Chamber of Commerce was held at the Senior Center. Members in attendance were Twilah Williams, Tracye Warner, Mary Jane Grimmett, Dan Ludwig, Toni Fletcher, Ed and Neva Robinson, John Lehman, Vickie Turner, Cindy Holt, Joel and Alice Hayes, and Bill Dyar.
Members voiced concerns about plans that have been announced for highway construction that will be starting at the intersection of U.S.-50 and U.S.-77. Representative Don Dahl will meet with citizens of Florence at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Ambulance building for a question and answer session. It will be sponsored by the Chamber and light refreshments will be served. All citizens are invited to come and share any concerns they might have.
Volunteers will be painting the overhangs at the city swimming pool and city employees will be installing the new water fountain, purchased by the Chamber, at the pool. It was announced Barbara Chavez has started painting the Chamber signs at two entrances to Florence.
Bill Dyar was the featured member this month. He reported he was born in Iowa and had been vice president of Southwestern College before he left that position to become a full-time minister. He is married and has four children. He has left the United Methodist ministry and is living in Florence while looking for other job opportunities.
The next meeting will be at noon Aug. 7 at the Florentine Center.
