HHS rally past Hesston boys

The Trojan basketball team overcame a rugged first half Monday night in Hillsboro to down the Hesston Swathers, 52-38, in the opening round of the Hesston 3A Sub-State.

Slowed by mistakes, four first-quarter points from Peter Fast helped the Trojans to a 9-7 lead after one.

Hillsboro (15-6) was bitter-cold shooting the second quarter, mustering just a trio of points while the Swathers knotted the game at halftime, 12-12.

Sharing honors with a game-high 13 points with Lucas Hamm, Wade Weibert's six points the third quarter helped Hillsboro put a 29-18 distance from the Swathers to start the fourth quarter.

Hamm scored his 10 points, helped by eight-for-11 at the free-throw line while Kyle Kroeker shot a perfect six-for-six to go along with 11 points.

The Trojans advance to the second round of sub-state, facing the Osage City Indians Thursday night in Hesston.
