Herschel Stroud has role in History Channel production

Viewers of television's History Channel Monday night may not have recognized former Peabody resident Herschel Stroud in the special about the Civil War on "Investigating History."

Stroud, who currently lives in Topeka, is a member of a Civil War re-enactment group. He portrays a surgeon in the Union Army.

In the program Stroud appeared in a brief segment about a field hospital that treated wounded soldiers following the October 1864, battle of Mine Creek, known as "The Lost Battle of the Civil War," which was one of the final battles of the war.

The scenes in which Stroud's character appeared were graphic depictions of operations in a battlefield setting. Stroud was seen "operating" without benefit of anesthesia on many of the wounded.

He is a 1948 graduate of Peabody High School.
