Harold Dyck

Harold P. Dyck, 86, of Hesston, died May 29, 2007, at Hesston.

Born Sept. 2, 1920, at Newton, he was the son of Jacob H. and Fannie (Yost) Dyck.

On Sept. 19, 1942, he married Elva Mae Hershberger at Newton.

He and his wife founded Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston, served on various boards that included Showalter Villa, Mennonite Publishing House, and Hesston Mennonite Church, was a former mayor of Hesston, served 18 years in the Kansas Legislature, and was involved in the early stages of Hesston Corporation now known as AGCO.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Dyck.

Survivors include his wife, Elva Mae Dyck of Hesston; two sons Gary of Frankston, Texas, and Tom of Hesston; two daughters Joycelyn Cooley of Hesston, and Julia Roupp of Ashland, Ore.; two brothers, John of Hesston, and Kenneth of rural Newton; three sisters, Neva Schmidt of Moundridge, Margaret Ensz of Inman, and Velma Jantzen of Hesston; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday afternoon at Hesston Mennonite Church with the Rev. John Murray officiating. Burial was at Eastlawn Cemetery, Hesston.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Dyck Arboretum of the Plains.
