Hal Sanders

Hal W. Sanders, 53, died May 12, 2003, at a hospital in Saginaw, Texas.

Born May 18, 1949, in Ashland, he was the son of Robert and Calla (Squire) Sanders of Protection.

He graduated from Protection High School in 1967 and from Emporia State University in 1971 with a bachelor of arts degree.

On Aug. 22, 1970, he married Catherine Mae Stucky of Peabody.

For 30 years, from 1972 to 2003, he was employed by Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad. His track experiences began in Wichita and took him to Enid, Okla., Winslow, Ariz., Newton, Topeka, and finally Saginaw, Texas. He began his railroad career as a clerk and retired as a systems program analyst.

He was an active member of North Fort Worth Baptist Church and participated in the sanctuary choir, ensembles, and various other committees.

He loved basketball, trains, and books. He was an avid reader and computer technology fed a zeal for acquiring knowledge.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine, of Saginaw, Texas; a son, Christopher Sanders of Topeka; a daughter and husband, Lisa and Jason Conley of Ozark, Ill.; two brothers, Kent Sanders of Olathe and Gary Sanders of Protection; two grandchildren; two nieces; and seven nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Protection.

A memorial fund has been established with North Fort Worth Baptist Church.
