Guadalupe Llamas

Guadalupe Llamas, 86, of Newton, died Jan. 11, 2006.

Born March 14, 1919, at Aguas Calientes, Mexico, he was the son of Pablo and Maria (Santiago) Llamas.

He served his country nearly 35 years in the U.S. Army, Army Reserves and Air Force Reserves, attaining the rank of master sergeant.

On Sept. 2, 1941, he married Marian Saenz at Newton.

He retired from the Santa Fe Railway as a brakeman. He also served the City of Newton as a reserve police officer for several years.

He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, P.J. Llamas, Jesus Llamas, Rudy Llamas, and Jose Llamas; and grandson, Christopher Llamas.

Survivors include his wife, Marian of Newton; three daughters, Mary Short of Wichita and Rose Martinez and Susan Rangle, both of Newton; four sons, Guadalupe Llamas Jr. of Pasadena, Texas, Phillip Llamas of Illinois, and Gary Llamas and Mark Llamas, both of Newton; sister, Carman Sauceda of Newton; two brothers, Everett Llamas of Wichita and Paul Llamas of Abilene; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The rosary was recited Sunday evening at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Newton.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Floyd McKinney officiating.

Burial with full military honors was in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.

Memorial funds have been established with Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, or Cancer Center of Kansas.
