Growers host 3rd annual dinner

The annual community dinner of the Doyle Valley Farmer's Market will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday in Santa Fe Park.

Mike Flavin, auctioneer and singer from Newton, will provide the entertainment.

All the food served are products of group members. Despite hot weather, their gardens still are producing tomatoes, squash, and other items. Baked goods from other vendors will be included on the menu. Homemade ice cream and mint tea are ready to cool off the day.

Mason jars of garden flowers and the familiar checkered gingham tablecloths will welcome visitors.

The first auction to benefit the group was a spontaneous event at last year's dinner. Members have donated more items this year in hope of generating some operating capital.

Proceeds are largely used for advertising and to enhance the market. The new canopies purchased last year to protect vendors and buyers from rain still are in the cartons!

Tickets and information are available by calling the Mayesville Mercantile or any market vendor.
